T Cell Lymphoma
T-cell lymphoma is a rare group of cancers of the lymphatic system. Learn the symptoms, subtypes, diagnosis, and treatment options.
T-cell lymphoma is a rare group of lymphoid cancers that arise from T lymphocytes, an important type of immune cell. It belongs to the broader family of non-Hodgkin lymphomas, but it includes multiple subtypes with different behaviors, symptoms, and treatment strategies. Because the group is diverse and relatively uncommon, diagnosis and treatment planning often require specialist expertise. [1][2][3]
Symptoms vary according to subtype and disease extent. Enlarged lymph nodes, fever, drenching night sweats, unexplained weight loss, fatigue, itching, skin lesions, abdominal fullness, or recurrent infections may be seen. In some forms, skin involvement is especially prominent, while in others the disease primarily affects lymph nodes, blood, or internal organs. [1][2]
Diagnosis does not rely on symptoms alone. A biopsy is usually required to identify the lymphoma type accurately. Pathology, immunophenotyping, and sometimes molecular testing help determine the subtype. Blood tests, imaging, and bone marrow evaluation may also be used for staging and treatment planning. [2][3]
Treatment depends on the subtype, disease stage, symptoms, and overall health of the patient. Options may include chemotherapy, targeted or immunologic approaches, radiation therapy in selected situations, stem cell transplantation in some cases, and supportive care. Because response and prognosis differ across subtypes, individual assessment is essential. [1][2][3]
The disease can be serious, but outcomes vary considerably. Some subtypes behave aggressively and require prompt treatment, while others follow a more indolent course. Follow-up usually includes monitoring symptoms, treatment response, blood counts, imaging results, and treatment-related side effects. [1][2][3]
Medical review should not be delayed if there is persistent lymph node enlargement, constitutional “B symptoms,” unexplained rash with lymphadenopathy, or other concerning systemic symptoms. Early specialist evaluation can shorten the time to definitive diagnosis. [1][2]
